SCAMMONDEN - top of Black Brook

The path along the top of Black Brook is part of the Ghost Mill Walk (in 'Walks from Barkisland Village - copies available from Barkisland Post Office). Calderdale Highways had received a report of a tree down over the path and asked us whether we could remove it. It was a large pine but there were also two other blockages - involving birch and willow - across the same path.

Many thanks to the residents at Nest Farm who allowed us to park up- this significantly reduced the distance of 'carry'.

Before work began, path warning signs were erected at each end of the path.

THE PINE TREE - Fully across the path, but too low, certainly on the left, to duck under.

After a lot of discussion and testing, a wide gap was created. All went well and the remnants of the trunk are stable.

THE BIRCH

This small single branch was easily dealt with.

THE WILLOW THICKET

Sprawling branches were blocking the way and disguising the path entrance. Loppers dealt with minor branches before the main branches were cut to leave clear access.
