On a fine day (a rarity above Todmorden!) Catherine and Kasher returned to Todmorden Moor Geology Trail . . . and the joys of being serenaded by Meadow Pipits, Skylarks and Curlew.
Today's task was to add stickers to all the information boards to provide further detail about the Geology Trail and also to acknowledge that the extensive refurbishment work on this moor was funded by Reaps Moss Wind Farm.
While we were walking the Trail, we also took the opportunity to clean the information boards, replace faded way-markers and firm up any loose marker posts. A beef suckler herd grazes this moor (especially at the Bacup Road end) and many posts are often used as heavy-duty backscratchers:- an action that means posts rarely remain truly vertical for long!
It was encouraging to see that an increased number of walkers have been following this informative route but it was very disappointing to see evidence of the damage, some of it significant, that trial bikes have caused to some sections.
Further information about the Todmorden Moor Geology Trail can be found on 'The Heart of the Pennines' website or on the 'West Yorkshire Geology Trust' website.
Today's minor (but essential) tasks were funded by Calderdale Ramblers. Many thanks
