TODMORDEN - Todmorden Moor Geology Trail

RJ and Kasher spent another interesting day on the Todmorden equivalent of the Forth Road Bridge AKA the Todmorden Moor Geology Trail (https://heartofthepennines.org.uk/todmorden-geology-trail/). On what, hopefully, should be the last visit for a few months we walked the route in reverse. The main tasks today were to:

  • clean the remaining information boards
  • install more white-topped posts
  • reposition marker posts which had been used as back-scratchers by the moorland cattle
  • replace way mark disks which had faded.
The Meadow Pipits, Skylarks and Curlew were all out in force. The suckler herd on the moor has also started to calve so there were a number of very cute, very young calves around.

Unfortunately, in one section  of the moor there has been significant damage by off road motor bikes. From the top of the Trail it was also worrying to see a fire which appeared to be on the moors above either Walsden or Summit.

It is clear from the path usage that there has been an increasing number of visitors to the Geology Trail which is most gratifying. The TMGT guide can be found online (see the above link to the Heart of the Pennines website) and is also available in Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.

Today's work has been funded by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.

Before: Mmm! some cleaning needed! . . .

. . .  After: The spruced up Sandy Road Colliery info board.

There are fossils to be found.
