RIPPONDEN : Dick Lane , a bridleway between Rochdale Road and Bar Lane

On what turned out to be a glorious Spring day, Linda and Eleanor re-visited 2 stiles on a path between Lumb Bridge and Blackshaw Clough Road to measure up for doing a couple of repair jobs in the coming week.

Afterwards we went down to Ripponden to make a start on improving and widening a bridleway between Rochdale Road and Bar Lane - once important enough to have been given a name - Dick Lane.

The detail.

This ankle turning gouged out channel was a hazard for walkers, bikers and horses alike, so we widened it by pulling in the surrounding earth and stones.

Not perfect but better!

We then started to work our way down the bridleway. Linda cutting back one of the many overhanging bushes that line the path, many emanating from gardens on the edge of the adjacent Stones estate.

There is plenty more to do to make this bridleway more accessible, including clearing the blockage above. I will be back soon to finish off.
