Depot Day
1. Jerry. Ken and Frank had earmarked today as an in-house preparatory session for two forthcoming footbridges; one in Hebden Bridge at Foster Dams and the other in Walsden at Ramsden Clough.
It was a wise choice! Working indoors was far better than braving the persistent rain that delivered a steady staccato on the depot roof.
Tasks were simple:
a). Shifting timber
Timber as needed for cross-treads, footbridge posts and footbridge rails. |
b). Sawing posts
First-cut shaping of post tops |
c). Trimming and smoothing
Final trim of post tops |
d). Preserving
Exposed ends of timber being treated with preservative. |
2. Later in the day, Paul and Frank S did a depot session (it was still raining!) to sort out tasks for next month's 'clear-up' day when jobs that have lingered on clipboards for various reasons (e.g.unable to trace landowner, awkward locations, specialist skills needed or further surveys required) will be distributed to selected teams.
No photos were taken; partly because we forgot but mainly because the visual appeal of two volunteers looking at a piece of paper is very limited!
More in the next few weeks about these interesting tasks . . . provided the rain has stopped!
