TODMORDEN - Cornholme

On a rather damp day, RJ and Kasher revisited the stile in Shore (at the end of Todmorden 057) to execute Plan B - i.e. carry out modified improvements.

Originally, on the copse side of the stone wall, this two-step stile was extremely difficult to use.

Plan A, attempted last week, was to install another set of legs and a tread-board to make this into a three step stile. Unfortunately a tangle of tree roots and wall footings made this impossible.

Plan B was to construct a 'box-step' to reduce the problems of getting onto and off the stile. The platform constructed should make this stile easier to negotiate . . .  especially for dogs and their humans!

While working on this footpath, we took the opportunity to re-waymark the route from the stile to the junction with Shaw Lane (BW Tod 048).

Many thanks to the landowners who gave us permission to repair this stile and allowed vehicle access so we could park near to the worksite.

Today's work has been funded by the Cornholme Wreath Making Workshop held in December 2023. Many thanks.

RJ with . . . is it a box-step or
a game of outdoor Jenga?

Side-sections being prepared . . .

Infilling the box-step with stone brought

The top-dressing is well-packed and should
drain to provide a good 'take-off' platform.
