TODMORDEN - mainly Geology Trail

A splinter group of Mick and Neil M, after collecting some old timber from the task at Pitts above Cornholme (see today and 13 January), went off to complete the waymarking along the Geology Trail on Todmorden Moor (see 5 January). Our activities today were funded by donations from the public - many thanks for these.

Detail

We drove to Pitts and said hello to Ken and Catherine, who were continuing to construct the new post-and-rail structure across the path. We removed four large lumps of timber remaining from the old structure and took them to the recycling centre at Eastwood.

Then it was back to the hills where we parked at Guide Quarry, at the start of Flower Scar Road, and lugged four marker posts and our tools for a mile along that road, uphill all the way and into a biting wind (cue violins). The section we waymarked was to the north of the road among the wind turbines, descending towards the Tower Clough woodland and then joining an old mining track. This completes our waymarking task for the Geology Trail apart from later adding a dab of white paint to make the posts more visible (except in snow?)
