HEBDEN BRIDGE - Nutclough

Six people were out today clearing the mulch either side of Hurst Bridge, securing a large rock above the main path near the pond, finishing-off revetment from Wednesday's work party and cutting-back and widening the lovely old path from Hurst Bridge to Hurst Road.

This work was funded by 'Friends of Nutclough' and by donations to CROWS. Many thanks.

The details

The wide path either side of Hurst Bridge regularly accumulates a deep layer of mulch which often needs an annual removal. A chance therefore for Ginny, Billie, Paul and Dylan to practise their synchronised scraping skills!

Meanwhile, further down the valley, Andy and Rich secured a large boulder which had slipped from the boundary wall. The barrier constructed should prevent further slippage but it will also provide an early warning if any further movement occurs!

While in the area, we finished filling the edge of the revetment put in last Wednesday (now the gravel had unfrozen!)

Joining together, we then tackled the path to Hurst Road. This wide path had become very narrow because of encroaching vegetation - mainly Snow Berry and Laurel. We did a cut-back most of the way down but there is still more to do.

Next we set about widening the path bed and found a good surface and a number of causey stones under all the debris and soil.

There is still a lot more to do, but a thorough job at this stage on this well-used local route is very worthwhile and will save time and effort in the future.
