BLAKE DEAN, WIDDOP

Ian S, Ginny and Rich had five jobs to do - clearing a blocked gully, dealing with two bad drainage problems, clearing stone steps, cutting back and replacing some rotten slats on the bridge. There is more work to do in the area, so we will need a second work party. The work today was funded by family and friends of Tim Mihailovik. Many thanks.

 The details

The blocked gully with water running over the path had mysteriously remedied itself - result!

Branches of overhanging trees were cut back.

Ian set about replacing several of the rotten slats on the bridge. A closer look revealed we need to replace another batch - this is often the case!

On to the two drainage problems where Ginny and Rich scraped off mulch and channelled the water into the stream. There is still some mud, but it is now a thin covering over a hard surface with stepping stones. We will review the effect of this work when we return.

Ian and Rich dealt with an awkward wall crossing whilst Ginny removed vegetation off the stone steps.

Much easier to walk down now

All three of us then went to start cutting back and clearing the path beyond the bridge. There was too much to complete in a day, but we have a plan for a second work party.

A lovely view of the bridge with its shiny new slats!
