TODMORDEN - Lydgate and Hartley Royd

There were two teams out from Todmorden today:

A) Ken and Jerry were installing a new stile near Hartley Royd on footpath Todmorden 049 whilst Mick was investigating, with the landowner, other outstanding works in this area. As the weather forecast was very poor, it was agreed that the team would put in the side-uprights today and complete the job during the next session.

B) Catherine and Kasher continued work in Lydgate on Todmorden 095 which was "rediscovered" last week. The task today was to way-mark the route which goes steeply uphill from the main road near Lydgate Post Office and links with the path which contours around the hill from Robinwood towards Scaitcliffe.

Today's work was funded by a donation from Tod Harriers', Flower Scar Fell Race. Many thanks.

Details:

Team A:  Rarely do we put in a completely new stile in an area where no stile has been for a long, long time .... however today was such a day. Although FP Tod 049 is on the definitive map it appears to have had limited use. Today's task was to start the installation of a stile to provide safe access and help bring this path back into use. We will (weather permitting!) complete this work next week and also construct a number of steps to further facilitate access.

The start of the day - a very grey and wet one!

Team B: Andrew and Kasher cut back this route last week. Today Catherine and Kasher put in marker posts at the top and bottom of the path and then yellow topped marker posts along the route. The path is steep and indistinct but, certainly at the moment, is well worth using if only to forage the very large crop of bilberries. There is a fence line across the path which we may need to sort out in the near future, one option being the installation of a stile.

Mmm! Snip, Pick, Eat . . . repeat!
