Gaddings Dam: Footbridge Part 2The footbridge at the breach just beyond Gaddings Dam was fully replaced earlier in the month by a team of Crows. It just required the finishing touches of three additional rails. This task fell to Mick and Catherine on a mizzly, misty February morning. Fortunately, there wasn't much to carry and after dropping another team at Guide Quarry (where it was blowing a gale with nowhere to hide) it felt like they hadn't drawn the shortest straw.
In the shelter of the hillside, it was a fairly pleasant saunter up to the site but by Jail Hole Quarry the valley bottom had disappeared and the team were soon exposed to the elements. Not much further to go through and, after a brew, the job was completed - two safety rails fitted above the walkway and one bracing rail fitted below.
The pair decided to make a circular walk of it, returning past Gaddings Dam and the Basin Stone. Unfortunately, the wind and rain increased and it was a couple of bedraggled Crows that finally returned to the vehicle near the Shepherd's Rest. Other work planned for the day was 'kicked into the long grass'.
