Frieldhurst: Stile part 2
Weather forecast - light cloud, gentle breeze and mild for the time of year. Reality - heavy cloud. persistent light rain of the penetrating type driven on by a determined breeze! A typical South Pennine, 'work or shiver' sort of a day!
Undeterred, Kasher, Andrew and Frank H returned to complete the stile-building task started on Wednesday. This is what the original stile looked like:
1. Original stile:Up-slope view . . . . taken on a better day! |
Frank and Andrew concentrated on construction while Kasher did a heavy stint of widening the narrow, broken-edge path that led to the stile.
2. Work in progress: Good focus on the task but those waterproofs look a bit wet! |
3. Work in progress: Finishing touches to the dog-gate and the treadboards . . . . but a bit wetter! |
Thanks to Kasher who took these pictures (so didn't appear on any of them). Once the stile work was complete we landscaped and tidied the area. It is very muddy here so some revetment work may be needed to protect the path edge. Otherwise, here's the end result to compare with picture 1:
4. End result: up-slope view of new stile. |
5. End result: down-slope view of new stile. Mmm! Neat work. |
This was a pleasing outcome because, despite the very poor working conditions, the end product 'ticked all the boxes' of being secure, safe, functional, durable and aesthetically pleasing. Hooray!
Today's work was funded by a donation from the Cornholme wreath-making workshop. Many thanks.
