Ray and Frank S were at the top of Redacre Wood, where there are steps leading up to the metal gate. The timber steps have been there for many years and were starting to rot and collapse.
After several hours of hard work, but in the sunshine, the steps were rejuvenated. This is a very popular route, and so we widened the steps where they meet the main path up the wood.
There's still more work to do here, and elsewhere in Redacre Wood, so we will be back again soon.
Meanwhile, Paul and Jerry were nearby on the little cobbled lane that leads down from Banksfield to Redacre allotments. Many years of heavy rain had washed soil down off the hillside and nearly covered the old cobbles.
Lots of hard work with spade and azad uncovered all the cobbles, and the shears and loppers cut back the hawthorn and brambles. It's now much easier walking.
There's still some more work to do on the lower section of this path, so we will be back again in the next few weeks.
This work was funded by public donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
