Fred and Kasher worked on two stiles in Luddenden before moving on to survey footpath problems in the Luddenden area, which had been reported to CROWS.
We replaced a treadboard on Sowerby Bridge 032 which is above a set of stone steps that we cleared a week or so ago.
1. Treadboard in need of replacement. |
2. Treadboard replaced and fence re-attached. |
We then moved to a stile on the footpath (Sowerby Bridge 02) which is just off Duke Street in Luddenden. Here we lowered the height of the top cross-rail, stabilised one of the uprights and made good all of the other cross-rails as well as any associated fence rails. This may not be the most attractive stile (!) but it is secure and is now easier to use.
3. Stile in need of some TLC. |
4. The "improved" stile. |
We have recently had a number of emails to our website informing us of problems with footpaths in the Luddenden/Sowerby/ Boulder Clough area. We visited a number of these today and, once the details are transferred to job sheets, the tasks will be put into the 'CROWS' job pipeline'. This is, of course, pending negotiations with the appropriate landowners. Issues which are outside the scope of CROWS' work will be passed to the Calderdale Highways team.
Today's work was funded by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
Here are some of the future problems!
5. A Calderdale Way link-path now a permanent stream! |
6. There were stone steps here! |
