WALSDEN: Near Cranberry Dam

It may not have been the most sensible decision to do some drainage work today but Ginny and Kasher ventured up Ramsden Wood Road and then up the hill to just below Cranberry Dam to do just that!

A year ago CROWS undertook a significant amount of work in this area. Today we were trying to improve the drainage between the two boardwalks installed on FP Todmorden 136.

Although this area was not completely frozen there was insufficient water flow for us to determine the optimum course of action. However, we opened up a number of channels to accommodate the increase in water flow that will happen . . . once the temperature rises above zero!

We will come back in a few weeks time to investigate the state of the ditch along the fence line, above the boardwalks. Clearing this ditch to improve flow should divert water away from the footpath and boardwalks.

We then went to check the drainage work undertaken last week on the path from Lumbutts Road near Top of the Rough. It was good to find that the turnbys were still working, the ditches were still flowing and the causey stones were not under water! The path seemed to have had increased footfall so we are sure, once the snow disappears, further work on the path surface will be needed.

Today's work was funded by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
