For today’s tasks we had glorious winter sunshine amid a snowy scene. Ian V, Ken, Mick and Neil M went to work on footpath Todmorden 085. Starting from the A646 at Lydgate, one branch of this zigzags its way up towards the ruin of Roundfield House. Ian and Ken set about refurbishing some old steps that allow walkers to shortcut one of the hairpin bends.
Meanwhile Mick and Neil went further up to the junction with a wider track (Todmorden 008), where 085 goes steeply down by the wall and could be missed. Here we fixed a square marker post with direction arrows. Sorry no picture, but it’s a lovely route, climbing steadily to leave the busy valley below – go and see for yourself!
Take care! |
We also went to check out some potential improvements to the other branch of the path, just below the bridge we rebuilt last year (see 10, 17 and 24 June). A few steps and some revetment would be all to the good here.
Residents of Cornholme have once again held a festive wreath making workshop at Vale Baptist Church to raise funds for CROWS. This year they raised the grand sum of £210. Our work today was financed from this source. Many thanks from CROWS!
