TODMORDEN - Various

On a lovely autumnal day (well mostly!) Fred, RJ, Andrew and Kasher tackled a number of jobs in the Todmorden area.

1. Repair and repositioning of a bridge: Swineshead Clough

The team returned to Swineshead Clough (on Todmorden 209) to repair and reposition a bridge over the clough. The course of the stream has altered since the bridge was first erected and the bridge was now close to a steep drop. The bridge was repaired and repositioned slightly higher up the clough.

3. Moving the bridge

2. Stile repair: Swineshead clough.

Two treadboards were replaced on the stile at the lower reaches of the footpath along the clough.

While we were in the area, we also checked the drainage work undertaken last week and then cleared and cut back the route from Swineshead Road to the stile.

3. Boardwalk repairs: Langfield Common.

The team cleared the overgrown boardwalk on Todmorden 163. This path goes from Lumbutts Road near Heyhead Farm to Withens New Road. Two cross pieces were replaced on the boardwalk. Removal of the vegetation should allow this boardwalk a few more years life. It is certainly not a well used path across Langfield Common but we were pleased to encounter a solitary walker!

4. Drainage work on Langfield Common.

The team went to check the drainage work on the route from the Shepherds' Rest across Langfield Common and along Withens New Road. The drainage (and waymarking) here needs to be done annually but at the moment the drainage seems to be working well.

5: Reinstating finger posts near the Long Causeway.

One of the finger posts above Mankinholes, at the junction of Footpath 168 and Bridleway 167, on the Long Causeway needed cutting down and reinstating.

We will be back to check out the waymarking in this area and to replace the blue bridleway markers which are badly faded.

9. Discussions on the placement of
the fingerpost.
10. The cut-down fingerpost, and distressed flag!

Today's work has been funded by a kind donation from TodWalkers (http://todwalkers.org.uk).
