Lynda and Eleanor were out today on an unexpectedly fine day. First stop was to check a report about the need to replace more treads on the bridge across the Ryburn at Kebroyd. Gradually we are replacing all the treads across this bridge. We identified 12, as well as a rotten rail, that needed replacing. At some point we need to discuss with the Council about replacing the whole bridge as each winter it deteriorates a little bit more.
Then it was on to Wood End Lane, a bridleway on 'Barkisland Village Walk 1' near Bowers Mill, off Branch Road.
Cleared steps coming off the field onto Wood End Lane.
The bridleway at the bottom of those steps was completely overgrown.
After some serious cutting back the bridleway emerged ...... and we worked our way up the track to where it leads out onto Saddleworth Road.
It's one of those paths that could do with annual lopping and strimming of the overhanging vegetation and undergrowth to improve access for riders and walkers .
This work was funded by Ripponden Parish Council and individual donations.
