As part of 'Todmorden Week of Action' CROWS have arranged for volunteers to work in the Todmorden area on our work days this week (the week beginning 10 October).
RJ, Fred and Kasher worked on Todmorden 009 which goes from Springwood, through Eastwood Woods, and comes out on Eastwood Lane. This path, with a Victorian lamp post, must have been a well-used route in its day because the steps are well worn and can be exceptionally slippery in wet conditions. Certainly, a path to walk up rather than down!

The path required significant cutting back of holly and bramble, and then a session of strimming. The CROWS 'archaeological team' enjoyed the unearthing of long-hidden steps, stone walls and turn-bys.

The stone sets halfway up this path were uncovered and cleared a couple of years ago so these were not tackled again. The small amount of regrowth on the sets makes them slightly easier to walk when conditions are damp . . . ie most of the time!

Many thanks to the local residents who allowed us to park on Eastwood Road close to the end of the path - a short walk to the worksite is always welcome.

Today's work was funded by Todmorden Town Council. Many thanks.
