HEIGHTS ROAD / PECKET WELL

 Heights Road

Ian S and Paul were out on the Heights Road on the S bend of the road past Wicken Hill Farm driveway in the direction of Old Town. Here there is a narrow gap stile in the stone wall that leads down to Raw Lane below. One side of the wall by the gap stile had been damaged to such an extent that it was unsafe. On inspection one of the tread-boards was found to be rotten.

The stones on the left of the gap stile were loose and the left tread-board was rotten.

We set about dismantling the loose stones and rebuilding the wall. The two flat top stones had been previously cemented in place so these in turn were cleaned up and replaced.

The stone wall end was rebuilt using the existing stone on site and then the new treadboard was fitted to replace the older rotted piece:

We then moved on to tidy up some overgrown stone steps in Old Lane, Pecket Well:

The steps were cleaned up and some waymarks added at key points on the footpath through the fields ahead.
