CRAGG VALE - Broadhead Clough and Parrock Clough

Ray and Rich completed three jobs today.

The two sites

The finger post at the entrance of Broadhead Clough had rotted off and needed replacing.

The new finger post made by Countryside Service volunteers

New post makes the routes much clearer

This work was funded by Friends of Calderdale Countryside Service from the proceeds of their Walks around the Village walking guides. Many thanks.

Then we moved down to the new footbridge at Parrock Clough. Two jobs:

Putting in a low waymark post with a plaque acknowledging the late Gerald Hardwick who provided the funds to replace the bridge.

The route was not that obvious if you didn't know!

We also looked at securing the steps above the bridge. Our initial inspection revealed that all the revetment was rotten and needed replacing.

Fell apart when we touched it, so an urgent job to save the steps

The risk assessment saying 'steep slope' was an understatement! Luckily, several elegant slow slides towards the stream didn't result in a fall.

The steps now secure for a few more years

We need to return to do a bit of path cutting back and to collect some timber from the old bridge.

This work was funded by donations to CROWS.
