COLDEN - paths along Edge Lane

Billie and Rich continued with jobs and surveying along Edge Lane.

Routes covered today

The first job was to waymark the path alongside May's Shop.

Then we went to clear a stile opposite Ingham Well - the stone surface was uncovered and overhanging branches removed.

The route up to the hills above Ingham Well was waymarked.

The old pack-horse path above presents quite a challenge . . .  but for a later day!

A lot of stones need clearing off this path.

At the top, the path leading back down to Edge Lane is unwaymarked and difficult to see - again a job for another day.

Then on to a path that leads from May's Shop to Halstead Green Farm. One section was cut back and a low waymark post put in at the junction.

Just beyond there is a lovely old path which is very difficult to spot so it needs waymarking.

The waymarking near Halstead Green Farm is confusing, but after a discussion with the landowner we now have a plan how to solve the issue.

Next stop, over the road was the path (known as Stony Lane) at the back of Hillside. Overhanging conifers and some encroaching vegetation were cut back.

Stony Lane before we started

The path much clearer and signs of a stone path uncovered.

Stony Lane needs a second visit to clear all the vegetation and check the surface condition of the path.

Our final location was Popples Close to follow up a report of a broken stile. The stile was still there but the treadboard was lying nearby! We agreed with the landowner that we would also cut back the encroaching vegetation below the stile.

The work today was funded by proceeds from this year's Blackshaw Head Fell Race.
