TODMORDEN -Various locations

On tour in Todmorden!

It was a "Marker Posts R Us" day for Catherine and Kasher.

We had intended to construct another tree enclosure at Guide Quarry but the imminent serious heatwave meant that planting trees might not be a good idea! So, after a brief diversion to water the tree planted last week, the team headed along Tower Causeway to footpath Todmorden 077 and re-instated two marker-posts:- one that was broken and one that had gone AWOL.

The sequence of posts adjacent to the fence marks the correct line for the RoW. Unfortunately the walked line (desire line) of this path has wandered off course . . . by about 50 m! We may need a strimming session to further clarify the correct route.

1. Catherine: new post and way-markers.

2. Yellow topped posts on
the correct line of the RoW.

We then headed to Lobb Mill car park to cut back and reveal the marker post indicating the bridleway Todmorden 037. This post is on its last legs (or is it leg?) and might only survive one more winter.

3. Spot the post?

4. Visible now . . .but for how long?

The next marker-post issue was a Keelham Farm where the post at the junction of two paths (Todmorden 015 and 016) was lying on the ground! We re-embedded it and cut back the route to the gap stile on Todmorden 015. This gap stile, fronted by a very fetching blue pallet, would benefit from a yellow topped marker post - a future task along with way-marking Tod 016 and Tod 015 more clearly around Keelham Farm.

5. The 'jungle' route to FP Tod 015.

6. Recumbent marker post at the
junction of Tod 015 and Tod 016!

The final visit was to the finger post, off Staups Lane, that points down Blackshaw 052. This small finger post was very loose - a problem that was remedied by the 'pack and whack' technique. The post is not under threat from livestock (they just love them as a back-scratchers!) so should remain upright until decay takes over.

Today's activities were funded by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
