TODMORDEN and BLACKSHAW HEAD - Various tasks

There were two teams out today, both in Todmorden.

Team 1.

Neil M and Ken were working at Guide Quarry, off Flower Scar Road. A number of years ago trees were planted in small, fenced enclosures to protect them from marauding sheep. Some of these enclosures have been damaged and consequently only a few of the trees have survived. Today's task was to re-construct the enclosures and to plant them with appropriate trees, some of which were a gift from the Woodland Trust. Many thanks.

Work in progress on a new enclosure.

Team 2.

Catherine and Mick had another 'clearing-up and finishing-off' day.
Firstly was a walk up the right-of-way (Todmorden 085) below Eagle's Crag to put a CROWS sign on the footbridge that was completed on Wednesday (see blog for 29th June).

Sign neatly in place on a neat footbridge!

Then it was over to Blackshaw Head to put in marker posts along the route of Blackshaw 041. This route goes from the Long Causeway, through the beer-barrel yard at Bridestones Brewery and up the field side towards Burnt Edge to reach the right-of-way Blackshaw 20. The route currently walked is not on the right-of-way. The correct route has now been marked with yellow-topped posts.

The team also repaired and re-fixed the sign that explains the diversion of Blackshaw 20 (CROWS did the work on this diverted path a few years ago).

The broken BS 20 diversion sign.

Today's work was funded by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
