TODMORDEN: ROBIN WOOD

Robin Wood (above Fiddlers Bridge and below Eagle's Crag)

Kasher and Frank H returned for a 'finishing-off' session on the footbridge that has been one of our projects in recent weeks. We were joined by Ken who only intended to stay for a couple of hours but, as one minor glitch followed another, worked the whole day. Thanks, Ken.

Here's the sequence:

1. If you know a better hole, go to it!
2. No need to curtsy, Ken. It's only a bridge!

3. Interim quality control test
by a passing harrier!
4. Mick's appeared! It's more quality control!

5. Completed footbridge -
view from down-slope end

6. Completed footbridge-
view from up-slope end.

7. End of session:

Not bad for a day's effort despite the jammed drill and some less-than-straight timber!

*One under-rail in place to support the final side-post.

*Hand rails fixed and side post braced

*Deck level trim fitted to left-hand side

*Stock fence at ends of footbridge fixed to new 'fence' posts.

*Cross-rails fitted between bridge and the above fence posts.

*Cross-treads of bridge stapled to help with grip.

 8. The last word!

"Well done, guys. It's a safe, rock-solid and sturdy bridge on footpath Todmorden 085.
I know all the paths around here, thanks to my favourite human who takes me on lots of walks. There's a fine view down to the River Calder and the railway line, then up to Knotts Wood and  what might be Knotts Naze.

However, the view may be fascinating and the bottom rail may be the best canine chin rest in the area, but what really interests me is that squirrel I've just spotted.

It deserves a good chase . . . if only I could slip this collar!"

Today's work, but not the shaggy dog story, was funded by Calderdale Council and individual donations. Many thanks.
