RIPPONDEN: ABOVE RYBURN RESERVOIR

Billie and Eleanor returned to finish repairing the stile - a job we started a couple of weeks back.

We had fitted the top step but realized the bottom step was also wobbling, so decided to replace the supports and tread. A simple task we thought, until we started to extract the old support! We dug down and down but still it wouldn't shift!

Not a conventional support and the only part above ground was the green bit! But then Billie had a genius idea and suggested we put the bar through the top hole and lever it out! Eureka! It saved us at least another hour's digging!

Job's a good'un. We then did some waymarking at the end of the path above the woods and noticed the smoke and live embers of a fire that had been lit in the woods - probably the previous evening! We lobbed the 'live' branches into the water and covered the fire with stones which seemed to do the trick. I went back later to check and all was OK. New role for CROWS?!
