PENNINE WAY - Bald Scout

Kasher, Paul, Rich, Ginny and Jan had a long haul with tools and posts from Lumbutts to deal with several problems on the Pennine Way.

Tools and posts to go up the top.

The two sites South West of Stoodley Pike.

The first job was an unclear junction of paths, one of which leads along Withens New Road (Tod 158) and thence along to Gaddings Dam. A waymark post was put in, and drainage problems were dealt with by digging out channels and scraping the path.

Scraping the path.

The problem on the furthest site was severe erosion of the path which has becomes a quagmire after  heavy rain. The cost of creating a route across the erosion is prohibitive. The solution was to improve a short desire line which people have been using to bypass the problem. Two posts were put in plus some improvements were made to the path. Signage will be added . . . when the printers deliver them to us!

Further on, Jan and Ginny dealt with pooling water across the path.

Grips put in to channel off the water.

Just lower down we cleared out one of the turnby drains to keep water off the path.

All clear

It's a long way back . . . but with lighter loads.

On the journey down we tackled another drainage issue and re-seated a marker post to delineate the junction of paths on this route.
