Ian V, Linda H and Stella continued the work on upgrades to the Pennine Way. We constructed a boardwalk to meet a stile and thus allow walkers to remain dry and clean above a tricky patch which in wet weather is a quagmire.
This work is funded by Natural England and Calderdale Highways.

The problem is at the south end of the red line |
First we have to carry timber and tools to the site |
Heavy!
Ready to roll....
And this is the patch we need to bridge |
A lot of the time in constructing a boardwalk is spent choosing the best position and getting levels and angles right.
The bearers must be level... |
...and so must the stringers
When the position is right and the structure braced at each end you can put the stobs in.....
...first making a hole with the bar and then banging in the stobs and nailing them to the stringers |
Then very quickly you can lay and nail the treads and add some staples for grip. |
,
And hey presto! |
The job's a good'un!
And we welcomed our first walkers.
