Frank S, Ray and Frank H went to the permissive path around the old mill pond at Castle Gate.
i) There was a report of a broken cross-tread on one of the footbridges.

| Spot the gap where a cross-tread should be! |
We repaired that bridge, and then found that the other footbridge was in even worse condition. Here's that bridge with five rotten cross-treads replaced.

ii) The path starts at some steps leading down from Castle Gate. We visit regularly, but the growth here seems particularly luxuriant and was again nearly covering the path.
By the time we had finished (unfortunately no picture) it was free of nettles and brambles, and more accessible to walkers . . . but in a well-watered, sheltered, stock-free, sunlit valley we know exactly what will happen!
