MYTHOLMROYD - Redacre Wood & Calderdale Way at Wadsworth

Kasher, Jan, and Frank S did a circuit of Redacre Wood and Hill House Clough on the hillsides above Mytholmroyd. We combined two jobs - surveying for new work and making small improvements as we went along.

We cleared away the soil that preventing a gate from moving freely.

We cleared out an old drain under the path.

We  repaired a revetment that had fallen out of place.

We secured a wobbly waymark post by banging stones down beside it.

We also cut back lots of brambles, nailed up a lot of waymark disks, dug several drains, scraped lots of mud off the path, improved the stepping stones in the stream, repaired a boardwalk, and rescued a waymark post that had been thrown into the stream.

At the same time, we surveyed all the broken, rotten, or missing steps and revetments around Redacre Wood, so as to do lots more improvements in due course.

Calderdale Way up from Shawcross Cottages

Meanwhile Ray and Paul were up on the tops getting a bit wet completing a set of steps and cutting back the path; the final episode on the stretch of path that winds it way up from Shawcross Cottages to the top end of Wainsgate Lane. At the top end of the path we put in a length of revetment to act as a turn-by to prevent water flooding down the path.

Two new steps fitted. Ray filling in!

Paul emptying soil onto the steps.

Path widened above the steps.

Drainage channel made and revetment in place to prevent flooding of path downhill.
