CRAGG VALE - Riverside path

Ray, Jan, and Frank S were on the Cragg Vale river path in the little field just downstream of Clough Foot Bridge. This picture shows two fallen trees - the big one was dealt with a few years ago, but the smaller one is again forcing passers-by into the mud.

Our task for the day was to cut back the fallen tree visible on the right, and then level the tilted path. This will enable walkers to keep close to the fence (where the ground is a bit higher) and just above the line of tiny springs that feed the bog.

Here's the work in progress, showing the revetment that will support the edge of the path.

And here's the finished result. It makes for much easier walking and avoids the ankle-deep mud!
