EASTWOOD & MYTHOLM STEEPS

Billie, Ginny, Bernard and Rich worked on Greystone Lane at Eastwood. It is an old sunken lane with really bad drainage issues.

Bernard started by unblocking a drain at the bottom of the lane.

There is a pipe here somewhere!

Some of the stones now uncovered
Ginny and Heidi sorting out the stones

We then discovered a drain all down one side. It clearly hadn't been seen for many years. The theory is, if we dig it out it should dry out the path surface. Within 30 minutes of digging, water was flowing down it - a good sign!

Easily dug out
It clearly runs all the way down the path
We now have a plan; to come back and clear all the brambles, to uncover the drain and dig it out up to the top of the lane.

Ginny, then went off to do some way-marking lower down.

On the way home, Bernard and Rich put in a waymark post where the track goes off Mytholm Steeps towards lower Rawtonstall.

All this work was funded by Todmorden Town Council as part of the 'There and Back' project.
