A 'great mud encounter' as we continued work on the beautiful path which curls down from Raw Lane to Stephenson House on Burlees Lane.
Last week
Rich and Fred replaced several broken steps and started filling the others which had sunk over the years. Today
Nick, Stella and later
Ray and Paul completed the job. Hard work, sourcing stone from the stream, hauling it up the muddy slope and packing it into the steps.

Meanwhile Ray and Paul widened the eroded path above the steps and then did some serious cutting back of luxuriant holly.
 |
Narrow and slippy,,, |
 |
...now easier to walk. |
 |
That's a lot of holly |
And Frank H and Richard J wallowed in the mire lower down sorting out a drainage problem.

Work funded by Huddersfield University as part of the 'Ted Hughes Walks' project.
The work continues next week below Stephenson House, where boardwalks, stiles and stream crossings involve repair, replacement or construction.
