AROUND LOWER RAWTENSTALL

It was a day of wind, driving rain, sun and hail!
The day started with a meeting with local residents to look at what could be done with Dark Lane going between Lower Rawtonstall and Den Farm. It is an old bridleway with a stone surface but currently it is a mud bath.

After some discussion it was agreed that we would try out some work on some sections but in the long run it would need the involvement of Calderdale Highways.

A small stream ending up in a big puddle!

Standing water on the route

Nowhere for the water to go

Bernard, Lynda and Heidi got stuck in to several sections

Where to start?
Rich and Ginny went off to do some waymarking at Dove Scout and Marsh Farm, both nearby.

At Dove Scout a waymark post was put in at the junction and several waymarks put up through the yard.
Below Dove Scout Farm where people don't spot the path

At the junction of Pennine Bridleway
They then joined the other team to help with the drainage

Trying to get the water to go down a drain

A section of scraped surface
At one point a stream was pouring over the path, so we had to open up a channel to take it across the path
Water pouring in from the top field (broken land drain?)
