BARKISLAND

Frank S, Nigel, Catherine, Bernard , Lynda, Ken and Eleanor were out today to repair stiles, cut back branches and improve a lovely path down the side of Sandyfoot Clough, but we hadn't planned for the weather! Attempts at drainage became the order of the day ....

Frank S carrying stone to build a dam to channel water through a wall drain.

This was the scene that met us when we went down to mend this stile. After a lot of unsuccessful attempts to try and drain off the water, we had to abandoned the job; it's a task for a drier day.

Before we started

Much easier to get over

Happily , Bernard and Ken made good progress on another stile ... and now it gives access to the lovely path down Sandyfoot Clough

Meanwhile, Nigel and Frank S went up the hill to repair a couple of field stiles. Despite the young heifers , they managed a good repair....

There were also a number of fallen trees with branches to lop which Catherine and Lynda tackled.

They then cut back some holly that was intruding into the narrow path.

Path looking much improved now but  revetement work needed in some places to  prevent people falling down a somewhat precipitous drop to the clough below.

There is more work to tackle in this area around Barkisland village. We shall return in more clement weather ........
