TODMORDEN - odd jobs day

Today has been a day for making a start to clear up the small, but necessary, odd jobs. Steve and Kasher set forth with a vehicle loaded with timber and tools and a long list of jobs . . .  As is often the case, as fast as we 'ticked' jobs off the list, others appeared to take their place so the list is still about the same length! However,  "we will be back!"

Task 1: Sorting out drainage problems on a footpath in Windy Bank Wood in Cornholme. This is not on the definitive map but is a well-used local path which also features on the recently developed walk by Vale Walkers. The walk, "Mills, Mines and Missionaries" can be found on the Heart of the Pennines website:   https://heartofthepennines.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Cornholme-walk-map-WEB-PDF.pdf. We will be back here in a few weeks time, hopefully when the route has dried out a little, to install two boardwalks.

Task 2: Replacing a rotten treadboard on the stile between Golden Stones and Bridestones (on Tod 044). Whilst at Bridestones we also fettled up the main entrance by re-attaching some rails but I am sure we will be back to reconfigure the entrance once the new owners of the land have clarified accessibility and access locations. We will also be back to sort out the stile between Bridestones and Golden Stones. This stile is both too narrow and too high.

Task 3: Adding an extra rail to the stile at Hippins which was repaired, and its dog-gate replaced, a couple of weeks ago.

Whilst out and about, we surveyed a number of other tasks to be done . . . a few more Jobsheets will be created!

Today's work was funded by Cornholme Wreath Making Workshop 2024 and by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks to all.
