MYTHOLMROYD - Cragg Vale River Path

The Cragg Vale river-side path is a permissive path that follows Cragg Brook up the valley and crosses lots of minor streams as they flow down into the main river. A team of three - Paul, Ian S, and Frank S - were out today a little way upstream of Clough Foot Bridge to deal with two of these little streams. For one of them we built a complete new timber footbridge. For the other we diverted the water away, cleared the sloppy mud, and laid a row of big stones to support the path. Further up the river we repaired an old revetment where the top rail was completely rotten.

This work was funded by Cragg Vale Community Association. Thank you for your support.

One of the small streams flowing down the hillside to Cragg Brook had eroded the pathway causing an awkward dip to traverse.

Ian S and Paul constructed a framework for a small timber footbridge to 'level' this part of the pathway.

Framework completed!

We then set about pinning the framework to the ground and fitting a number of treads before finishing off with nailing two kickboards and 2 lengths of trim into place.

Finished!

Meanwhile Frank S replaced a rotted length of revetment further upstream and widened the pathway alongside. He then went on to improve two additional sections downstream:
