TODMORDEN: Stones and Lobb Mill

Taking advantage of a let-up from the snow, ice, floods and storms of January, there were two jobs for the old firm of Mick and Neil M today.

(1) Three marker posts along a path down from Stones Lane towards Bacup Road: a link path for the Tod Centenary Way, and a useful route from town towards Gorpley Clough. Path code 06/102/6.

There were old posts, loose in the ground, at all three locations. We sited new posts at the first two locations, and re-planted the old post at the third.

(2) Clearing a path up from Halifax Road - Lobb Mill car park towards Rodwell End. Path code 06/37/2 & 3.

This one had been reported to us as problematic in parts, owing to excessive growth of holly and brambles - not a nice mixture to stride through. At one point a large holly tree stands plumb in the middle of the path. Mick: "I knew thirty years ago that this would need dealing with!" But we did enough cutting back to create an easily walkable route around that tree, and indeed all the way through the woodland.

How do we get through this?

What's the problem?
