Ken and Rich spent a morning at three (somewhat slippery) sites that had been reported as needing hand rails sorting. We meant to do these before the winter snow came, but were caught out last week - better late than never! The first job was installing a new handrail on some stone steps at the top of the ginnel running down from Lees Road to Unity Street. The second job was a minor handrail repair on the path from Old Lees Road to Hurst Road. These jobs were funded by an individual donation to CROWS.
The third problem was a broken handrail on the path coming down from Heptonstall Road. This job was funded by Calderdale Highways Rights of Way.
Thanks to Fred Howarth for supplying recycled scaffold poles.
The details
Lees Road
The problem was uneven stone steps with nothing to hang on to which was meant some local residents had stopped using them.
Steps cleaned off and new handrail installed |
Path to Hurst Road
This is a setted path that can be slippery, part of the scaffold handrail had slipped out. A bit of pushing and twisting and it is back together.
Lee Wood Road
A popular walking route from Heptonstall to Hebden town centre.
