HEBDEN BRIDGE - Dark Lane

Clare and Rich made a start on sorting out some problems on this route from Lee Wood Road to Foster Bridge. It is an old setted farm track that over the years has become narrowed in places with encroaching vegetation. An additional problem is that some of the setts are very slippery, so  completely cleaning them off would make it unusable (especially the sections without a handrail). Very mixed weather, great views of the back of Hebden Bridge town and a bit of satisfaction at the progress we made so far (the green bit on the map).

This project was funded by a donation to CROWS.

The details

Cutting back the sides - Laurel, Brambles, Cypress, Nettles and Mahonia - slow going work but it allowed us to do some clearing of the surface. The setts are still there but we will leave the low vegetation to ensure there is a non slip route!

Overhanging trees mean people had to walk on a narrows section of path

Cutting back in a tunnel!!

Three hours later, full width cleared so allowing more options, especially for walking down the path

Another one or two sessions will be needed, but long overdue piece of work.
