OLD TOWN AREA

Seed Hill and Ibbot Royd / Lower Chiserley

Today Jerry, Jan and Paul went to strim and cutback footpaths on two sites in the Old Town and Dodd Naze areas. The black clouds and early downfalls of rain didn't bode well first thing but the weather surprised us as the day went on with periods of sunshine along with intermittent showers. The first site we went to was near Seed Hill at the bottom end of Rowlands Lane where the path heads down toward Dodd Naze and Sandy Gate Lane. The second site was above Ibbot Royd going up to Lower Chiserley.

The work was funded partly by general donations and partly by Wadsworth Parish Council.

Two sites indicated.

The R-o-W, behind Seed Hill, that descends down to Sandy Gate Lane had overgrown to such an extent that it was almost hidden from view. A thorough strim by Jerry followed by a good raking by Jan cleared the pathway.

Where is the path?

Strimmed and raking in progress!

That's better!

Meanwhile Paul and Jan worked on the section of path behind Seed Hill to clear overhanging branches and cut back the encroaching foliage and tufts of grass.

A wee bit overgrown!

Cleared

Section down to Sandy Gate Lane cleared.

After a sunny lunch we went onto our second job for the day:

Enjoying lunchtime views

Above Ibbot Royd the footpath leads up to Lower Chiserley in Old Town. This section was cut back in June but has again become unmanageable. The worst parts were strimmed and work was undertaken to widen the narrow path that leads up to Lower Chiserley behind Chiserley Gardens.

Overgrown

Clearer!

Narrow path overgrown.

Cleared and widened.

We will return to this path to finish the widening. This will help to keep the path clearer into next year.
