Jan, Andy and Rich went to finish clearing the One Hundred stone steps off the top of Midgley Road. We had to add an extra step at the bottom so its now 101 steps!
Then it was up to Tray Royd to deal with a blackthorn blockage, an absence of any waymarking, an awkward stile and a length of overgrown path. We also had time also to clear a set of stone stepsleading down to the track at Tray Royd. These paths, now open, form a lovely short stroll above the village starting near Stocks Farm. Today's work was funded by Midgley Community Forum.
The details
The One Hundred Steps
Now all clear; a lovely woodland path ending at Brearley |
The extra step |
Up to Tray Royd above Midgley....
Clearing the blackthorn and creating a safe wall crossing:- from the totally impassable to clear with a safe wall crossing.
Cutting back a section of the path (after we had improved the stile)
No soaked footwear from wet grass |
Way-marking on this section was non -existent, but all routes are now clearly indicated.
The steps down to Tray Royd were covered in soil and growth, they now look as they were intended!
A fine set of stone steps |
We will be back to waymark the path from Town gate, clear the steps up to Scotland and deal with a broken stile.
All to be done on another day |
