WADSWORTH - Stoney Lane

CROWS had been asked by the organisers of the forthcoming Heptonstall Fell Race to strim part of the race route in Pecket Well.

Jan, Ginny and Kasher spent a very warm day strimming Stoney Lane (Wadsworth 030), and then worked on clearing the Calderdale Way path between the A6033 and Ackroyd Lane. Mmm! Who knew there were two wooden benches at the top of this path?

The strimming at the bottom of Stoney Lane concentrated on cutting back Himalayan Balsam, which should reduce the seeding capacity of this extremely invasive plant.

There was a problem with one Ash tree on Stoney Lane but CROWS hope to clear this in the next few weeks.

Today's work was funded by Heptonstall Fell Race. Many thanks.

Kasher attacking the Himalayan Balsam.

Balsam well and truly bashed, but some ferns, gooseberries
and the occasional Ragwort left untouched.
