TODMORDEN - Various locations

On a beautiful September day there were three teams out from Todmorden:

1)    Ken and David, (with initial help from Neil M): sorting out hidden and submerged causey stones, drainage and cutting back near Ashenhurst on Tod 029.

2)    Mick and Neil M: replacing a major marker post near Knotts Wood at the junction of Tod 197 and Tod 086.

3)    Catherine and Kasher: celebrating their birthdays by strimming (or is it swimming) the cycleway which runs parallel to the tow path at Walsden, part of route 66 of the National Cycle Network.

Today's work was funded partly by Todmorden Town Council and partly by Calderdale Highways. Many thanks for your support.

Walsden Cycle Track

Knotts Wood, Cornholme

Details:

1) Ashenhust: This useful path had become overgrown with brambles and is now waterlogged, and thus needed significant work to bring it back into use. Today's team started by cutting-back to reveal the hidden and submerged causey stones, then cleared cross-drains and turnbys to divert water off the line of the path.

And here it is - a beautiful causey path.

2)  Knotts Wood: Replacing marker posts is usually a relatively simple task . . .  the hard part is carrying all the tools and timber to the worksite!

The post that needed replacing was way up the hillside above Cornholme at one of the major path junctions, between Knotts Wood, Hartley Royd, Frieldhurst and Dundee. And yes! - timber and tools had to be carried - up  from Knotts Road and past the steps which CROWS installed a few weeks ago.

3) Cycle track in Walsden: This cycleway was impassable for all but the most determined of cyclists! The route, parallel to the towpath, makes an interesting alternative for walkers and cyclists alike. It is now strimmed and cut-back and should now be passable for everyone. Please use this trackway to ensure it remains clear!

Catherine: starting on the easy part of the track!

Amazing what a strimmer and loppers can do!
