There were three CROWS teams out today.
1) Jerry, Frank H and Kasher worked on the top flight of the Flailcroft steps above Scaitcliffe Wood - hopefully, the penultimate session.
2) RJ and Fred continued the strimming of the Pennine Bridleway; this time off Badger Lane in Blackshaw Head. The work was funded by Natural England.
3) Andrew and Ray sorted out way marking on Scrapers Lane (Tod BW 027) between Cally Hall Farm and East Whirlaw Farm and then installed a marker post in Bent Wood at the junction of two paths. This work was funded by Calderdale Council, Highways Department.
Details:
1) See separate report - last flight to Flailcroft.
2) CROWS have been asked by Natural England to carry out strimming and cutting back on a number of sections of the PBW in the Upper Calder Valley.
Today we completed the PBW section in Blackshaw Head . We still have two more sections to do to finish the initial phase of this type of work on these tracks.
The recent rain has certainly helped the growth of the vegetation. The Foxgloves, in full bloom, were a magnificent sight - we tried hard not to cut them down.

3) From East Whirlaw Farm the Calderdale Way turns right and goes down Scrapers Lane towards the golf course above Todmorden. Unfortunately, many walkers on this route seem to miss the way markers and carry straight on towards Cally Hall Farm. CROWS were asked to improve the way marking in this area. The re-siting of a marker post and installing new way markers should help reduce the number of confused walkers and riders!
We also took the opportunity to improve the signage in Bent Wood where we installed a new marker post at the junction of two paths.
