Today there were 4 different jobs to be done. Ian, Lynda, Billie and Eleanor were out. There were several improvements needed on this path which forms part of the Ripponden Village Walk 2. It is a beautiful path linking Mill Bank with Kebroyd passing alongside a stream and through a glorious beech wood.
Job 1
This old post is sited at the junction of the public footpath and an old path which runs along the streamside. It was rotten at the bottom and tucked out of sight.
Billie and Lynda had soon replaced the old post with a much brighter and obvious post. Good to see Billie out and introducing the new post ... not to mention her new work trousers!
Job 2
The streamside path needed some cutting back
I guess this job will need to be done a few times during the season but it was less jungly after a bit of a haircut.
Job 3
Much of the path is eroding away, but this was a particularly bad section. The previous revetment had rotted away and remnants could be seen halfway down this precipitous slope.
Ian heroically starting to fix the revetment at the top of this steep bank. Not for the faint-hearted ... The surface was very friable and long stobs were required.
A while later and the job was done. We even managed to recycle the old post to help add bulk to the backfilling.
Further along the path there was another couple of sections to install revetments and thanks to Ian's hard work and assisted by his willing apprentices, we got it all done.
In the process , we widened and improved the path too.
Job 4
Lynda and Eleanor then walked across to start to clear the steep steps where the Calderdale Way comes into the village down the hill from Soyland Town.
The steps are very narrow at this point and although they start to open out round the corner, they still need clearing to make them wider.
.. and there was a beech tree intruding into the path
.... a start was made but we plan to return another day to complete the job . Potentially a fine set of steps.
This work was funded by a grant from Ripponden Parish Council and individual donations from the public.
