Kasher, Neil McKeating and Rich paid a quick visit to Guide Quarry to carry out some defensive work to stop the cows eating the newly planted trees, and then moved on to Flailcroft to clear the steps prior to replacing them next week.
This work is being funded by a donation from the Todmorden Wind Farm accessed through 'Community Foundation for Calderdale'.
The details
The tree 'shelters' have been successful in deterring sheep but are less effective against hungry, long-necked cows! The solution? Put a temporary wire mesh across the tops of the 'shelters'.
That should keep them out for a year or two! |
The steps on the path from Flailcroft down to Scaitcliffe Hall are mostly rotten and need replacing.
The task today was to cut back the path, uncover the existing steps and cut timber for the new risers - a necessary bit of preparation for next week's construction work.
