TODMORDEN - Eastwood

Today Ken H. and Neil M. resumed their labours on a stile near Great Rock (see 9 December 2022), where footpath Blackshaw 056 meets Eastwood Road. The state of one of the uprights left little to be desired, and both were very loose in the ground. Consequently, we had to dismantle the structure, leaving intact the treadboard assembly which was, of course, in excellent condition having been constructed by us just months earlier.
Extracting the underground remnants of the two old posts was, as one of us muttered, "like pulling teeth". However, it meant that once we'd got them out, the holes didn't need much expansion for us to sink the stout new posts. Then it was fairly straightforward to attach the cross-rails and make good the wire fencing on either side. We had no company except for a solitary cow who wisely kept her distance. Thanks to the neighbour who let us park in his drive while we worked.
