Above Fiddler's Bridge: revetment and path work.
A rain-free day (hooray!) saw Catherine, Mick and Frank H adding another section of revetment to the footpath (Todmorden 085) that ascends from Fiddler's Bridge (just beyond Lydgate) towards Roundfield. The revetment and subsequent widening of the path is designed to counteract the problem of localised landslip where the path edge is crumbling . . .
1. Path edge: slip-sliding away! |
2. Revetment in place and anchored with long stobs. |
3. Widened path being graded. |
4. End result: path widened and levelled with revetment back-filled and banked - compare with picture 1! |
In principle, this task was simple but it required a disproportionate amount of effort because of the resistant ground conditions and the scarcity of in-fill materials. However, the combined muscle-power and stamina of the three volunteers prevailed, and we were 'done and dusted' by lunchtime.
Several walkers passed-by during the session and were very complimentary about CROWS' efforts to make-safe this popular, spectacular route. Thanks for your interest.
The repairs were possible because of a donation from the 'Todmorden Wind Farm Fund' accessed through the 'Community Foundation for Calderdale'. Many thanks.
