WADSWORTH - LIMERS GATE / ABERDEEN FLATS
It was a bitterly cold morning as Nick and Paul parked up near Plumpton and set off to walk up to Limers Gate carrying two marker posts, a bar, a small spade and a rucksack full of various sundries . . . including a hot flask! The task was to replace a rotted marker post on the Limers Gate bridleway where it intersected with the ROW from Higher Green Hill to the Winny Stone. Thankfully the ground wasn't too hard and Nick made progress:
The new post fitted in snugly and waymark discs were added, resulting in:
On the return walk we put in a yellow-top post on the brow of Higher Green Hill as a sight line for walkers ascending up from the flats:
Following a spot of lunch in the comfort of the car with mugs of hot tea to warm frozen fingers, we managed to stir ourselves and set off along the footpath that runs along the bottom of Aberdeen Flats toward Spinks Hill Farm. The path crosses two small streams that run off the moor into field channels; areas that have become eroded boggy ditches that are difficult to traverse. Armed with Azad and Spade we set about trying to make some improvements:

A boggy crossing! |
By widening an existing channel and digging out a new one for the second area, we managed to drain away enough of the water so we could place some stones across the gap to make the 'crossing' slightly easier:
We will revisit over the coming weeks to see how it's going.
